FINAL PRODUCT - Magazine Double Page Spread

FINAL PRODUCT - Magazine Cover

PRINT SCREENS

I placed the masthead first and stretched it out all over the top of my magazine. I used the Quick Selection Tool for my main image to get rid of the studio background and then I put the image over the masthead. I added a few cover-lines on the side to get started with the colour scheme for my magazine which was red and black. On my flat plan I created the idea to add a graphic on my magazine ti make it stand out. I used the Ellipse tool to create the graphic and added text on top of it with two colours. Towards the end I changed the font i used for my artists name and I changed the fonts for my cover-lines to Arial Bold. This was because the serif fonts did not make the magazine look like an RnB/Hip Hop magazine so Arial Bold made my magazine look much better. For my double page spread I already had typed up my article about my artist and pasted it on separately. I used the same font I used on my cover for the artists name. I also added a signature of the artist to fill...

Flat Plans

I used  this cover for inspiration for my magazine cover. I used the mid shot from the picture to place my model on my cover. I liked the way she was placed on the cover as you can see her facial expression and a small amount of her clothing. This shows that you can tell from her facial expression and clothing what type of genre the magazine will be. With this I am going to add a RnB/Hip Hop twist to this and make the facial expression and clothing look more dark and mysterious. For the double paged spread, I got a few ideas from this example. I found the layout very interesting as it looked very simple with a decent amount of detail. I placed the main image on the left just like it was placed on the example. For the text I also used the same layout as it seemed structured very well and there was also a good amount of information fitted on the page. I have also decided to place the title of the page on the top left corner as it would look nice by the picture. A small p...

Statement of Intent

For my NEA, I will produce a music magazine cover and a double paged spread for 14-18 year olds. To create this magazine, I conducted an audience research to find out what type of genre and what schemes my audience would prefer to see on my magazine. This gave me an idea of what I would include on my magazine to make it perfect in my audiences’ eyes. I will use media language through the use of mise en scene which will include lighting, props, camera work and editing. I am planning on using different techniques this time to see what will fit into my genre and if I can create meaning through the use of it. As my magazine is a RnB/Hip Hop magazine the mise en scene that I will be using will create a deep and dark meaning about my artist and her music and the lighting will also create this effect. I will use different camera angles to try and also shape a meaning  and create a different level of engagement to the audience.  For my background, I will be using a studio as it will...

Market Research

This is all the research I conducted for my market research. I designed a survey for people, mainly around my target audiences ages, to fill out my survey. This is an evaluation of the results.

Magazine Deconstruction

Music Magazine Collage

I looked into magazine covers which stood out to me because of their models or colours used to make the cover seem interesting. I might be able to get some inspiration for my magazine from some of the covers which seemed engaging. For example, FADER seems like a unique magazine as it doesn't look similar to the other magazines on the collage. The magazines use different colours and their models are usually doing a type of pose which you don't really see on a magazine often. The Ariana Grande and Zayn Malik magazine was very different as Ariana has her hand on the cover as she is seen touching a mirror and Zayn Malik is seen drinking a glass of juice. This is what I could use on my magazine.

Research Rationale

I will be conducting two types of research, audience research and market research. The target audience for my music magazine are from the age 14-18 year olds. I have access to these age groups as I am in school and my school has a sixth form. I am currently in year 11 at secondary school which means I have access to people younger than me and older than me as my school is joined with a sixth form. I could find a few people from these age groups and ask them to be in an interview for my focus group. For my market research, I will deconstruct a music magazine so I can pick out the main conventions of a music magazine and make it sure it is a product that my target audience would prefer to read I will look at the features of a music magazine which is aimed at teenagers and identify the common features which are on the magazine or inside the magazine. I will also look at the colours and fonts used on each magazine and pick out to how it targets their audience and how it matches to th...

Exploration of Magazine Typography

The fonts on these mood boards all have the use of similar colours such as black, white or red. Most of the mastheads are in caps to show the seriousness of the magazine’s music genre. The fonts sizes are large which means they are simple for the reader to see what the magazine is named and maybe get the idea of what music genre it is just by looking at the title.  For example, the BBC music magazine stands out because it is very different to the other mastheads. BBC music magazine’s font is thin, serif and typed in lower case which shows that this magazine has a more older and mature audience than the rock or hip hop magazines. In my opinion, I see that the rock or hip hop magazines are written in bold and have really bright or dark colours to show that their music is daring and rebellious. A masthead that really stands out with the use of different colours is Billboard . The masthead is sans serif but where it is written ‘board’ there is the use of red, yellow and blue. ...

Introduction to NEA Brief

We have been assigned to design and create a music magazine front cover and a double page spread for 14-18 year olds. I know that I will enjoy this because I am a huge fan of music and I will be able to have a clear understanding of what 14-18 year old might want to see on a magazine. I am excited to spend a big amount of time trying to create my magazine because I really enjoyed making my prelim magazine as it helped me improve my media skills. When I am working on this magazine I am hoping to improve my photo shop skills as it was very hard to understand because i had not used it in a very long time before that. I am also looking forward to work with my model as my favourite part of making the magazines was taking the pictures before actually designing my magazine. I am also looking forward for the research because it’s interesting to see what teenagers prefer over other genres or ideas. This will help me a lot as it will be easier for me to know what I need to include in my m...
