Research Rationale

I will be conducting two types of research, audience research and market research. The target audience for my music magazine are from the age 14-18 year olds. I have access to these age groups as I am in school and my school has a sixth form. I am currently in year 11 at secondary school which means I have access to people younger than me and older than me as my school is joined with a sixth form. I could find a few people from these age groups and ask them to be in an interview for my focus group.

For my market research, I will deconstruct a music magazine so I can pick out the main conventions of a music magazine and make it sure it is a product that my target audience would prefer to read I will look at the features of a music magazine which is aimed at teenagers and identify the common features which are on the magazine or inside the magazine. I will also look at the colours and fonts used on each magazine and pick out to how it targets their audience and how it matches to their genre of music.

For my audience research, I will be making a survey online so that teenagers or others can answer questions about music magazines and what they would usually prefer to see on a magazine. Some of the questions may be multiple choices and some they would have to type in themselves. I think this is a good way of me to research my audience as it will be anonymous and there would be no pressure. Another way I could research my audience is do a focus group where I could ask those questions and get opinions from different age groups. The reason why I would want to interview different age groups is because I could be able to see what the difference and similarities are between what the age groups prefer.

PRINT SCREENS

I placed the masthead first and stretched it out all over the top of my magazine. I used the Quick Selection Tool for my main image to get rid of the studio background and then I put the image over the masthead. I added a few cover-lines on the side to get started with the colour scheme for my magazine which was red and black. On my flat plan I created the idea to add a graphic on my magazine ti make it stand out. I used the Ellipse tool to create the graphic and added text on top of it with two colours. Towards the end I changed the font i used for my artists name and I changed the fonts for my cover-lines to Arial Bold. This was because the serif fonts did not make the magazine look like an RnB/Hip Hop magazine so Arial Bold made my magazine look much better. For my double page spread I already had typed up my article about my artist and pasted it on separately. I used the same font I used on my cover for the artists name. I also added a signature of the artist to fill...

Introduction to NEA Brief

We have been assigned to design and create a music magazine front cover and a double page spread for 14-18 year olds. I know that I will enjoy this because I am a huge fan of music and I will be able to have a clear understanding of what 14-18 year old might want to see on a magazine. I am excited to spend a big amount of time trying to create my magazine because I really enjoyed making my prelim magazine as it helped me improve my media skills. When I am working on this magazine I am hoping to improve my photo shop skills as it was very hard to understand because i had not used it in a very long time before that. I am also looking forward to work with my model as my favourite part of making the magazines was taking the pictures before actually designing my magazine. I am also looking forward for the research because it’s interesting to see what teenagers prefer over other genres or ideas. This will help me a lot as it will be easier for me to know what I need to include in my m...
