Research Rationale

I will be conducting two types of research, audience research and market research. The target audience for my music magazine are from the age 14-18 year olds. I have access to these age groups as I am in school and my school has a sixth form. I am currently in year 11 at secondary school which means I have access to people younger than me and older than me as my school is joined with a sixth form. I could find a few people from these age groups and ask them to be in an interview for my focus group. For my market research, I will deconstruct a music magazine so I can pick out the main conventions of a music magazine and make it sure it is a product that my target audience would prefer to read I will look at the features of a music magazine which is aimed at teenagers and identify the common features which are on the magazine or inside the magazine. I will also look at the colours and fonts used on each magazine and pick out to how it targets their audience and how it matches to th

Exploration of Magazine Typography

The fonts on these mood boards all have the use of similar colours such as black, white or red. Most of the mastheads are in caps to show the seriousness of the magazine’s music genre. The fonts sizes are large which means they are simple for the reader to see what the magazine is named and maybe get the idea of what music genre it is just by looking at the title.  For example, the BBC music magazine stands out because it is very different to the other mastheads. BBC music magazine’s font is thin, serif and typed in lower case which shows that this magazine has a more older and mature audience than the rock or hip hop magazines. In my opinion, I see that the rock or hip hop magazines are written in bold and have really bright or dark colours to show that their music is daring and rebellious. A masthead that really stands out with the use of different colours is Billboard . The masthead is sans serif but where it is written ‘board’ there is the use of red, yellow and blue.  The

Introduction to NEA Brief

We have been assigned to design and create a music magazine front cover and a double page spread for 14-18 year olds. I know that I will enjoy this because I am a huge fan of music and I will be able to have a clear understanding of what 14-18 year old might want to see on a magazine. I am excited to spend a big amount of time trying to create my magazine because I really enjoyed making my prelim magazine as it helped me improve my media skills. When I am working on this magazine I am hoping to improve my photo shop skills as it was very hard to understand because i had not used it in a very long time before that. I am also looking forward to work with my model as my favourite part of making the magazines was taking the pictures before actually designing my magazine. I am also looking forward for the research because it’s interesting to see what teenagers prefer over other genres or ideas. This will help me a lot as it will be easier for me to know what I need to include in my m
